[31:21]  1 tn Heb “blessed [be] the Lord.”

[31:21]  2 tn Heb “for he caused his faithfulness to be amazing to me in a besieged city.” The psalmist probably speaks figuratively here. He compares his crisis to being trapped in a besieged city, but the Lord answered his prayer for help. Verses 19-24 were apparently written after the Lord answered the prayer of vv. 1-18.

[34:2]  3 tn Heb “my soul will boast”; or better, “let my soul boast.” Following the cohortative form in v. 1, it is likely that the prefixed verbal form here is jussive.

[34:2]  4 tn The two prefixed verbal forms in this verse are best taken as jussives, for the psalmist is calling his audience to worship (see v. 3).

[34:16]  5 tn Heb “the face of the Lord [is] against the doers of evil to cut off from the earth memory of them.”

[35:14]  6 tn Heb “like a friend, like a brother to me I walked about.”

[35:14]  7 sn I bowed down. Bowing down was a posture for mourning. See Ps 38:6.

[35:14]  8 tn Heb “like mourning for a mother [in] sorrow I bowed down.”

[72:19]  9 tn Heb “[be] blessed.”

[72:19]  10 tn Or “glory.”

[72:19]  11 tn Heb “surely and surely” (אָמֵן וְאָמֵן [’amen vÿamen], i.e., “Amen and amen”). This is probably a congregational response of agreement to the immediately preceding statement about the propriety of praising God.

[89:13]  12 sn The Lord’s arm, hand, and right hand all symbolize his activities, especially his exploits in war.

[89:13]  13 tn Heb “is lifted up.” The idiom “the right hand is lifted up” refers to victorious military deeds (see Pss 89:42; 118:16).

[99:9]  14 tn Or “exalt.”

[102:19]  15 tn Heb “from the height of his sanctuary.”

[102:19]  16 tn The perfect verbal forms in v. 19 are functioning as future perfects, indicating future actions that will precede the future developments described in v. 18.

[105:8]  17 tn Heb “[the] word he commanded.” The text refers here to God’s unconditional covenantal promise to Abraham and the patriarchs, as vv. 10-12 make clear.

[119:74]  18 tn Heb “those who fear you will see me and rejoice.”

[145:12]  19 tn Heb “the sons of man.”

[145:21]  20 tn Heb “the praise of the Lord my mouth will speak.”

[145:21]  21 tn Heb “all flesh.”
